Card of The Day: The Tower (XVI)

Card of The Day: The Tower (XVI)

Keywords and Concepts: Sudden, destructive change, catastrophy, disaster, shake-up, downfall, revelation, disaster, distress, rough justice, financial ruin, total loss, crisis, accidents, emergences

Astrological Associations: Mars, Aries

Elemental Associations: Fire

Messages: This is generally seen as one of the most “negative” cards in the deck. Worse than Death, worse than the Devil, the Tower talks about a total collapse of existing structures to make room for new and lasting ones.
Being in denial of the signs and warnings of this dramatic shift.

“The Tower is the only man-made image in the Tarot, and as such, represents the constraints of society’s demands and the strict requirement the constraints of society’s demands and the strict requirements of convention.” – http://tarot-theroyalroad.blogspot.com/2011/06/16-tower-xvi.html

The change that comes with the Tower is one that is outside of your control— unlike some of the other challenges presented in the Tarot, this card is not about escaping disaster— it’s more about how you deal when your world falls apart.

The Tower warns against clinging. Don’t hold on to your possessions when your house is up in flames— you’ll get burned. Don’t fight and resist the change— accept that it is inevitable, you cannot stop it, and look for positives in the situation.

Positives such as… having the time and attention to focus on what you are passionate about. The opportunity to redesign your life to closer resemble the life you always dreamed of. The removal of all of the weeds that are choking out your garden. New freedom, now that your attachments are gone.
Prepare now to embrace this cleansing fire.
